Zoe Does Ralph Gibson...

Zoe is such a versatile model!  I've been attracted to Ralph Gibson's work ever since another Carriage House Model (Amy Marie) worked with him in New York last year.  He has published numerous books of photography, all of which have and abstract look and feel that I find make his work very appealing and images powerful despite their simplicity. Gibson also is of the generation that personally knew the masters, Edward Weston, Andre Kertesz, and Dorothea Lange, yet is still active today, and his images evoke the influence of these masters.

Zoe and I set out to work in the studio with lighting and artifacts that attempt to find the simplicity and minimalist expression of Ralph Gibson.  It turned out to be more difficult than we expected... but here are some of the results!

Art Nude Magazine / Photography Workshop w. Peach Meadows

Welcome to our first Carriage House Photography Workshop of 2018!

With a new year we are launching a new product, Carriage House "Reflections" - an online magazine (Ezine) featuring images from our workshops, concepts, photographers and models. The content of the Ezine will consist of images from the workshops that are selected for the magazine. Our model for the the first workshop will be Peach Meadows, who has been successfully producing an E-zine. You can see examples at: https://www.zipporayh.com/ You can see her portfolio at:

https://www.modelmayhem.com/peachmeadowskennedyhttps://www.instagram.com/peachmeadows/

The format for the workshop with Peach will be a "mini-shoot." For photographers who are familiar with studio lighting and shooting models, this is an opportunity to meet and direct the model. Photographers will take turns "directing" the model, and helping set up each mini-shoot, and as a result, have the opportunity to shoot 6 different scenes with the model. As an experienced model, whose artistic range goes from Peach can also help you get the most out of your session with her. For less experienced photographers, this is a great way to see how other photographers work with a model, and Paulo will be available to assist you with lighting and posing.

"Songs of Innocence" - Art Nude Photography Workshop (Writers as Photographers)

Join us as we continue our guest photographer workshop series with French writer and photographer Jehanne de Champvallon! Our next "Writers as Photographers" workshop "The Chimney Sweeper" will explore William Blake and his writings and ideas about the themes of innocence, beauty, fear, power and corruption, as applied to the photographic vision of French author and photographer Jehanne de Champvallon, who will lead the workshop. Jehanne's approach is that each photograph, or series of photographs should tell a story, just as she would do as a writer. The workshop participants will learn how the craft of being a writer and photography can complement each other.

During the workshop, Jehanne will discuss how she begins with a story as a writer, and then as photographer, proceeds to tell the story in an image or series of images, including using the art nude as a form of expression. Photographers will have the opportunity to photography the story and model under Jehanne's direction, so that they can experience and experiment with this novel approach to photography. The themes she will explore and has selected from William Blake's work are as follows:

I) SONGS OF INNOCENCE AND SONGS OF EXPERIENCE - Showing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul… as exemplified by the two poems The Lamb (innocence) and The Tyger (beautiful and fearsome). Jehanne will work with our model to portray these contrasting states of nature; as both Virgin Mary and femme fatale..

II) THE CHIMNEY SWEEPER.. the nature of innocent and corruption and the tension between them… as illustrated with the model.

III) The ABSURDITY OF LIFE and the absence of God in Blake's work

She will demonstrate the process with Heather Joi, the model she has selected for this workshop. Heather

"The Voyeur and Exhibitionist" Art Nude Workshop

Helmut Newton once said “Every photographer is a voyeur, if he says he’s not, he’s a liar.”

Well, we are in luck because we have Zoe West visiting the Cattail Studio from New York, and she’s agreed to be our model for a workshop exploring "The Photographer as Voyeur." If you’ve seen Zoe's portfolio, you know that she not only is a model, but also brings a tremendous range of expression and feeling to her work with photographers.

You can see Zoe's portfolio at www.zoecwest.com

I’ll be leading a 3 hour workshop/shoot exploring the Photographer as Voyeur theme, with Zoe in various natural and studio light settings. The Cattail Studio location with it’s living/dining room with fireplace, bedroom and master bath will be a great setting for this workshop!
